Reminds me of a chapter in one of Oliver Sach's books. It was at one place where a group of people were watching a debate of political candidates (USA) on TV. They had lost the capacity to understand the spoken language - they were laughing at the politicians on the TV...
Some other people thought they were behaving "inappropriately" .. after investigating it was discovered that the group were relying on their know-how on body language - they could tell the politicians were "fibbing"from the body language - as they had lost their spoken language skills, their skills is reading body language had come to the fore as they had to rely on it so much ...
