Four Norwich care homes will be closed

Four Norwich care homes are to close, with 150 residents facing the prospect of moving to a new £18.9m ‘care village’ on the edge of the city.
Bosses say the homes - Heathfield, Mountfield, Somerley and Philadelphia House - all date back to the 1970s and their age means they are not up to standards.

NorseCare, which runs the homes and is owned by Norfolk County Council, announced in the summer that it wanted to shut the homes and transfer people to the development at the Three Score site in Bowthorpe, to other care homes or housing with care schemes.

Consultation with the residents and their families has concluded and 112 responses were received, with 71pc supporting closure and the move to Bowthorpe.

Members of NorseCare’s Liaison Board formally recommended closing the homes and this has now been agreed by Norfolk County Council.

Dates for the homes to close have not yet been decided, but it is expected to take place during spring next year.

Sue Whitaker, chair of Norfolk County Council’s adult social care committee, said: “While the care provided in the homes affected is excellent, the standard of the accommodation and facilities aren’t as good as we want to provide.

I know the new homes will be better but why do they keep doing this.
This limits the places available.
Norfolk county council have done this so many times.

It is not good to keep moving elderly, they don't cope well with change.
