Nearly half of care homes 'not up to standard'

Nearly half of care homes in England are below the required standard, according to figures from watchdog the Care Quality Commission.

Eight months ago the body in charge of regulating care homes promised a "new approach" to inspections, following several high profile cases of abuse.

Since then 30 care homes have been rated as inadequate, and have closed .
