I have made a decision about my voluntary work ...

Postby chenrezig » 25 May 2015, 14:15

Its not that I want to give it up, or do I???

It seems that at the moment I just have to juggle too much at the moment.

I have a job three days a week, (four if you count my friend paying me to help her with her shopping and other jobs on a fourth day). Clearing stuff out of my flat, walking and bussing round the city finding some where else to live (my landlady has put the flat up for sale), and being available for a few hours each week for people to view the flat (need to keep the letting agent "sweet" as they will have to provide a reference for my next landlord... I just seem to have little "quiet" time to myself, which I do need.

So.. I have decided to pack in my voluntary work - I will miss the company, and helping ( I will still do my knitties as by my reckoning up today I must have raised in the region nearly £300 so far). But my knees are really starting to feel it with all the kneeling on a hard floor to do the clamps for the wheelchair and I have noticed they do feel better as I haven't done it for the last two or three Fridays.

I have been trying to write them a letter but nothing I write seems to look right... I had said I was going to do this Friday, but I really don't want to, I have been trying to call today to leave a message but the answerphone isn't switched on, so I will have to talk to them tomorrow.

I feel guilty about packing it in, but it is voluntary, and I will keep supporting them with "Knitties" which are a nicelittle earners for them

Any thought?

Well firstly Liz, you should hold your head up high and be proud of yourself when you phone them.
Some people never do any voluntary work, and you have been with them for several years. I suggest when you phone them, you say how much you have enjoyed your time with them, but now is the right time that you feel to move on.
Say, of course, you will try and visit yearly events that they put on which will enable you to still keep in touch and at the same time still support them.
Thank them but stay positive, it is your life, which you have shared with them because you Care and keep knitting whenever you wish to.

Liz it must have been a tough decision for you but your health comes first, and also if you will eventually have to move it is a lot to cope with mentally and physically.

I wish you all the very best in flat hunting, I think you have made the right decision with all that you have on your plate at the moment.

I absolutely agree with Wendy & Mo, you should be proud of what you have done for them so far but you must put your own health and well being first.

I agree with the previous posts Liz, you must put your health first and it is time for you move on. Finding a new flat and moving will be hard work and quite stressful, so you need time to yourself.

Dear liz
you must do what is right for you at this time.
You are not superhuman.
When you speak to them just tell them that your present circumstances have recently
changed and you are reluctantly unable to continue working voluntarily for them at present.
Offer to return when your circumstances improve, and thank them for the opportunity of working with them.
This will keep your options open should you be in a position again when you might wish to return to them.

I agree with all the comments.

you are such a special lady and I'm sure you will be very missed. Like you say you will still do your knits for them too.

You certainly have enough to keep you busy!

good luck with the house hunting. I shall be thinking of you

lots of love

I phoned them up today and told them that I wouldn't be able to do any volunteering for a good while until I get sorted, and that I would be writing them a letter explaining.
