Just Wondering

Postby Grommit » 30 Apr 2015, 13:09

I go shopping on regular occasions to fill the fridge and restock the cupboards with tins, bread and the like.
I go into the shop or Supermarket, select the things I need, put them in the basket, wheel it to the checkout, pay and then go out of the shop and load the stuff into the car. Job done.

Sometimes I use the internet to buy items of clothing for Jean such as tops, underwear and aids for the disabled to make our lives a little easier. I select the things I need, usually only or one or two, go through the procedure needed to pay for them, then sit back and wait for them to be delivered. Job done…NO.

After the goods have been delivered I am then inundated with E mails exhorting me to but this or that which I do not need or want and pointing out that other people have bought something else in which I might be interested.
But, worse than that, there is the “How Have We Done” or “Review Your Product” questionnaires. Generally a page long of tick boxes forcing the purchaser to make decisions on scales ranging from 1 to 10 on whether I like the product, did it arrive on time, was I satisfied with the service, how likely am I to recommend the service to my friends and so on and so on.

Complete waste of time as far as I am concerned but I just wonder if our corner shop is likely to start the same thing. Imagine leaving the shop with your daily paper and a packet of crisps, start walking towards the car or bus stop when you are confronted with a shop assistant waving an A4 sheet and shouting, “Thank you for your purchase. Could you fill this in before you go on your way.”

On another note altogether, I got up this morning, opened the curtains and saw a large colourful Happy Birthday banner stretched across the front room window of the house opposite. Perhaps it is a sign of the times when people start celebrating the installation of new windows in their houses. Or have I got it wrong?

I do love your writing Derek. So true. I am fed up with question airs they drive me mad.
