My central heating

Postby wendy » 18 Nov 2014, 18:53

I have had to call out British Gas again today, my radiators were not getting hot.
He has put a new pump on and suggests that I may have to have the radiators cleaned out and some special liquid put in them.
The clean out would not be covered by the BG insurance and would cost hundreds.

Has anyone had it done, I could not afford to pay for this so I am worried.
The radiators seem to be nice and hot now.

I've not had anything like that done Wendy, when our radiators have not got hot we bleed them.

Hope your radiators will be alright now.

Personally never had this done, but did once have the radiators flushed out as Dad did the bills then - I don't know how much it was. I used to bleed them myself to get rid of airlocks - our old plumber showed me how, likewise unjamming the thermostat when the little pin got stuck down.

I have had a look online, and found this advice on MoneySupermarket

http://www.moneysupermarket.com/communi ... 53651.aspx

I have also read online that depending on the chemicals used, especially if the system is old, it may create leaks as it "attacks" weak points eg rust.

Hope someone else can advise you better

Liz

thank you.
They did do a clean out of the radiators when I had my new boiler fitted about 7 years ago, but this engineer said he didn't think they had put chemicals in them.
The radiators are nice and hot now, so let's keep our fingers crossed, they will stay ok.
For the past few weeks, they have been cool.

Hope you radiators stay hot Wendy and you do not need them cleaned out, as it sounds expensive. h###u

He told me they would take longer to come on so this morning I got up to a cold house.
I have now set the timer for an hour earlier.

I am stripping off, it is funny really.
I have turned it down to 19 and it is much more comfortable.
I think I have to get used to it.

bRITISH Gas were marvellous, they classed it as an emergency because I had to turn everything off.
They came within 10 minutes and the man was really nice this time, he put some chemicals in the boiler.
He says I have to let it settle down for 2 to 3 days but get in touch if it does it again.
I certainly never want to hear that noise again.

the third man came and seems to have fixed it. he put chemicals into the system.
Today I received a quote for £719 for a radiator system clean.
I phoned BG and made a complaint.
