World Post Day (International)

World Post day happens each year on October 9, remembering this date for the establishment of Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. The UPU was the start of global communications revolution, people could write to others all over the world.

October 9th was first declared World Post Day at the 1969 UPU Congress in Tokyo, Japan. Since then, World Post Day is celebrated all over the world to highlight the importance of the postal services.

The UPU established that:

    There should be a uniform flat rate to mail a letter anywhere in the world
    Postal authorities should give equal treatment to foreign and domestic mail
    Each country should retain all money it has collected for international postage.

The UPU provides that stamps of member nations are accepted for the entire international route.

All this was new to me, it is amazing what we learn on here.

Speaking of post, what is it about Royal Mail parcel post?????
I have  had 3 parcels this week, the first 2 managed to deliver them fine by either knocking on the door or ringing the bell & waiting & handing to me  personally ( these were not Royal Mail)
Third was a different kettle of fish altogether, I was in,  did not have music on nor was I hoovering, so was perfectly capable of hearing the door, yet I found a card behind the door saying, sorry you were out, come & collect your parcel at the sorting office but not for 24hours. I was furious. This happens virtually every time with Royal Mail. Why is this I wonder? other carriers never  have this problem,

Annie, I have had a parcel left on the backdoorstep and no card .. when I did  find it it was two days later and a layer of snow on it !

We are fairly lucky with the parcel postie, she has got to know if the car is not there she try and leave it with a neighbour.
