Feeding the swans

Postby annie » 17 Jun 2014, 16:27

I didn't want to put these with the other canal pics on the public board as they include my daughter-in-law Debbie and grandson Callum. We had a stroll down there on sunday to feed the swans

They are such majestic birds. You were lucky to get as close as you did to them.

The new bridge over Leeds & Liverpool Canal -  Weavers Triangle Burnley

They painted it in rust & let the paint run so that it looked rusty on keeping with the historic  old buildings

I was upset today when I walked down the canal, I saw the pen and cygnets in the water & the cob was on the bank    with 2 people bending down over him. I thought they were hurting him, so rushed down towards them ,,however , just the opposite , it was 2 RSPCA officers, they were taking him in because someone had reported he was unwell, his head was a bit lollopy and he wasn't trying to bite them, as he usually does when people try & walk past him

They told me they were taking him back to the animal centre for the vet to see him & hopefully treat him & return him to his family. I am just hoping he has not been poisoned like the pair in the next village the other week.

Anyway, on a lighter note, I saw a duck with 2 new ducklings and I managed to fed the pen and her brood & took a couple of pics

I do hope the cob will be alright.

It's quite late for ducklings but I expect it's the mild weather, they should be big enough before winter.

I walked both sides of the tunnel this morning, to try and see the pen and cygnets, but no joy, so walked further down to see if they had strayed from their territory & then I spotted, what I thought was them,  & cob was with them. However, my joy was short -lived , as there were 5 cygnets, so presume that this was the other pair from 2 miles up the canal.

When I came home , I posted on the Burnley Past and Present Facebook, to ask if anyone had seem them ,so  wait & see if I get a reply
