East Lancs NHSTrust supports ‘Carers’ Week’

Postby annie » 11 Jun 2014, 20:24

This is the pic & article from the Hospital website form Monday when we performed for carers week

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is proud to support Carers’ Week and help raise awareness to improve the lives of carers and the people they care for.

Carers’ Week is a UK-wide annual awareness campaign which is running from Monday 9th to Sunday 15th June 2014. There are an estimated 130,000 carers in Lancashire (Lancashire County Council report), a rise of over 6,000 in the last 3 years, and a number that is set to continue rising.

To launch the start of Carers’ Week the Trust invited the carers’ choir, a group of carers who meet regularly to sing and support each other. Jim Birrell, Interim Chief Executive and Chris Pearson, Chief Nurse welcomed them to the Trust and thanked them for their support and singing in the reception area at Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital.

Jim Birrell, Interim Chief Executive at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust said, “We really need to get behind campaigns like this and help raise awareness, carers carry out tremendous tasks each day and they need to be recognised for that”.

Chris Pearson, Chief Nurse at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, added, “We are currently implementing our Carers’ Strategy after working with the local Lancashire County Council Carers’ Implementation Group. This new strategy will support our hospitals and services to support our carers’ in the most, safe, personal and effective way possible”.

To support staff within East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, online carer awareness training is available to all staff via the Learning and Development Department. Staff also receive support from Carers’ Link a local voluntary group who signpost and support carers’ to local services who can support them in their caring role

Our choirmistress, Olwyn, (turquoise top far right) insists on black skirts or trousers and black shoes, but she likes us to wear bright colourful tops, as she wants to get over that it is not all doom and gloom being a carer, so we chose tops that are as bright as possible
