Shared Lives is a scheme which allows vulnerable adults and older people who need care to live in someone's home.
Councils across the North West are running the scheme, which provides an alternative to residential care.
The Shared Lives carers get paid and the idea is that the person staying with them may feel they get more freedom than living in a care home. They are recruited, vetted, and trained by local Shared Lives schemes, who have to be registered with the government's care regulator.
There are 12,000 Shared Lives carers in the UK.
Age UK has said the scheme should be approached with a "degree of caution" as it would involve placing potentially vulnerable people in homes with strangers.
