Poised for action!

I am sitting here knees knocking as I am now booked as on duty on my own for community first responder shift!

I keep looking at the phone thinking don't ring/please ring/don't ring!!

The car is ready with my kit and defib. in my uniform with my newly done hair (6inches shorter!!) poised and ready!!

I have done 3 call outs before but all with a partner. so pooping a brick here!!

Will let you know how I get on!

It is a wonderful thing you are doing Jane, if/when you get the call out the nerves will just go when you get into action possibly saving someones life.

Well I did until 5pm and no-one needed me which is good for the public not so good for my practicing!! Sounds awful that. i'm sorry!

Going to do another shift on Monday I think.

Well I survived my 2 calls yesterday.

I am doing one on my own Thursday and 1 with a partner in the new car on Friday! East midlands Ambulance Service has leased a car for us with all the signage and decals on. I shall be trained on the radio in that on Friday. We will park up somewhere where we can be seen and chat to people.

Probably drink lots of tea too!!! Hopefully!!

Well. I am broken in now!!

On Thursday last week I had 2 calls! I was stood down on the first one before me and knocking knees got to the front door. Then sent to the same address later where I met a lovely paramedic who showed me how to use their computer system.

Friday was in the car day!!! It is brilliant. Brand new skoda fabia. Radio, built in satnav and hands free kit! There is a button to press when on the radio where I have to say "over" when I stop talking!!! Won't need that button much!! i never stop!!

We parked the car up so people could see us and some assumed we were police and slowed down which was hilarious to watch!!

We had 2 calls neither serious but were great experience ones. So feel all proper now!! Doing another couple of days this week.

Knees still knock but not as loudly!!!! hu****

You won't think twice in a few weeks time getting a call out, sounds like you're doing really well and loving  it.

I know I've said it before but it's a wonderful thing you are doing, we are all proud of you for what you are doing
