PEASANTS LAW

When the corn is high as a Charolais’ eye
And the sunsets a promising red
When the forecast’s set fair, let the farmer beware
‘Cos there’s bound to be mischief ahead.

When the combines on song and just rolling along
And the straw is all cracklin and bright
There’s and old peasants’ law that says trouble’s in store
And it’s lurking there just out of sight.

When the trade at the market brings a song to your heart
And your sheep make a hundred a head,
Chances are that the sale has a sting it’s the tail
Back home there’s a cow lying dead.

When the overdraft’s shrinkin’ and yow might be thinkin’ for
Once you’re made more than you’ve spent
That’s the day when the landlord makes a note in his book, and
Asks for a rise in the rent.

When they’re calfin’ with ease, not a sign of disease
And it’s all gone accordin’ to plan
Well, I can’t tell you how, but it’s anytime now
When the shit (pardon me) hits the fan!
