Green spaces have lasting positive effect on well-being

Crystal Palace park (Image: BBC) There is a growing body of evidence that suggests urban green spaces are good for people's well-being

Living in an urban area with green spaces has a long-lasting positive impact on people's mental well-being, a study has suggested.

UK researchers found moving to a green space had a sustained positive effect, unlike pay rises or promotions, which only provided a short-term boost.

The authors said the results indicated that access to good quality urban parks was beneficial to public health.

The findings appear in the journal Environmental Science and Technology.

I don't drive which is often a disadvantage but my shortest walking route to Tesco is through the park where I can watch the seasons change - hopefully snowdrops will appear amongst the trees soon, even in this cold climate, I'm keeping a sharp look out for them

A short detour means that I can also walk along the beach and still get to Tesco - I love the sound of the sea.  I can hear it at night when I am tucked up in bed.

I truly think nature is wonderful

I love walking on the beach too, I find the sound of the sea is very soothing, unfortunately I have a 30 mile drive  to indulge!
