First snow of the winter expected for many next week
Many parts of the UK could see a “nice and pretty” dusting of snow as temperatures drop by the middle of next week

It may be time to dig out the thermals and dust off the sledge as the first low level snow of the winter is on its way.

Millions of families are likely to wake up to a “nice and pretty” coating of snow as Arctic winds sweep across Britain next week.

Signalling an end to the mild Autumn, forecasters have said it is likely to get “noticeably colder” by midweek but insisted the light snowfall was unlikely to cause any disruption.

They dismissed fears of another Big Freeze saying temperatures were expected to rise again by next weekend.

The Mercury will drop from a mild 10C in London and 13C in parts of Scotland yesterday (Friday) to highs of just 4C to 6C by next Tuesday.

d879  Nice pretty snow was here in Scotland for a few days the past week,  the real heavy stuff expected to arrive in the next day or two - hope it doesn't get too bad here.    The skiers cannot wait, they are all waxing their skis ready for action on the slopes - the Cairngorm season is about to start. 09klj 09klj 09klj

Now is the time to get plenty standby items in the cupboard

It looks like it will be very cold tonight, the gritters have been out on the Park and Ride.
Today I bought a pair of those Christmas wool trousers for £10 from Primark.
I am really warm and in fact a bit too warm.  They have got lots of reindeer and stars on them so a bit colourful.
