Alzheimers - a 2000 year old take

Postby Grommit » 11 Nov 2015, 11:58

In the beginning was the word and the word was GP who spake thus, “Verily I am deeply troubled. Go forth through this land and follow the signs thou shalt find on the road and the walls and the arrows on the floor through many doors until thou comest to the Place of Healing where thou shalt consult physicians and wise men ”.

And Lo they journeyed through the land and came to the Place of Healing and sat amongst the physicians and prophets who spake as though in the Tower of Babel with many words and thus they addressed the listeners:-

“O wife of many years thou hast been smitten with Alzheimers disease. Before ye are many stages which will cause thy husband much wailing and gnashing of teeth as thy synapses are rent asunder.

Thou wilt find thyself wandering in the market place and not knowest whither thou goest and a host will search for thee in Marks and Spencers, Morrisons , yea even unto Poundstretcher.

Behold also thou shall seek thy way home even when thou art already there. Unto thee riches shall have no meaning and thy speech shall be lost so when thou seest things before thee, as if in a mirror darkly’ no words shalt thou speak.

Thou shalt lose control of thy bodily functions and create a mountain of labour in thy home which shall be likened unto the work of Sisyphus.

Thy feasting will expand beyond the time allotted to it and thy feast shall become cold and tasteless and thou shalt dip thy fingers in the gravy of thy potage and wipe them on thy clean clothes

Thy balance shall be lost and thy movement shall become as a little child which is falling down like the leaf falleth from the tree.
All these things and more I prophesie for thee O faithful wife and for thy carer I prophesie thus:-

Verily thou shalt be struck with legions of doubts whether thou hast chosen the right path. Thou shalt have thy rest destroyed wondering “What if..” and that which is as a grain of sand will groweth into mountains.

Thou shalt seek comfort in the land of Shiraz and of Rioja and of Glenfiddich and find it not but thou shalt travel through the world of Internet and find solace and understanding amongst thy fellow men.

The help thou procureth shall be likened unto a chocolate vessel filled with heated stones and thou shalt dismiss them from thy service.

Thou shalt find joy in the smile of thy wife when dawn breaketh each day and laughter when thou lookest into her eyes.

All these things I see before ye. Gird up thy loins and be ye not afraid.”

And lo these things have come to pass.
