Sunday I went to visit County Hall as they were having a bus day, with the chance to have rides in vintage buses
It was the “Norwich Classic Bus Running Day” and organised by the East Anglia Transport Museum in Lowestoft, the Eastern Transport Collection in Attleborough and the Ipswich Transport Museum.
I started off by having a ride in the cream bus from the Railway Station to County Hall –
crikey was it bumpy, I will try n get the video I took of us going down Red Lion Street and St Stephens –I gave up in the end as it was so bumpy.
A few pics of the buses at County Hall …
The second trip was on the same cream one – they did a circular route out through Trowse, Stoke Holy Cross, past Caister St Edmunds (got a good look at the Roman walls there) and back to the city.
By then I had had enough .. I had started to feel a bit queasy sitting in the back of the old bus and decided to get back in the city and come home. Hello, I thought, taking a funny way into the city … then we went out onto Hall Road and past where they are knocking down the old shoe factory
It dawned on me that the bus had been at the wrong stop and I was now one another circular route out to Mulbarton and back –we went out on the Ipswich Road and turned off to go through Swardeston –went right past the church
Then onto Mulbarton – the bus stopped briefly for a photo op, I stayed put as I didn’t want to lose my seat. I had no idea the common was so huuuuge - the pics are taken from opposite sides of the Common
Back though Swardeston again… back to County Hall –got a good view of the Jaguar they have there which used to be at RAF Coltishall before it closed – a replica aircraft by the way
Another bus back to Castle Meadow – when we got there I was surprised by all the chaps there with their cameras … it was there it really took me back in time seeing all these red buses –four together at one time …
And to end with a passengers eye view of some of the buses ..
My fav bus of all was this one, like you see in the Miss Marple on TV
I reckon I spent about 2 and a half hours on buses all told .. that would take me Wisbech !!¬
