PAINFUL EYES

Postby Jeanne » 15 Nov 2013, 12:14

I have a bit of a problem with my eyes. I have dry eyes and use drops, but they are often still uncomfortable, especially when I have been out on the mobility scooter. I wear glasses, but they don't seem to offer much help. Any ideas for relief, or what I could do to avoid them being so painful. They feel a little gritty, but more of a burning sensation. Only usually happens after being on the scooter. Thanks. x Jeanne

Your Optician would be the best person to advise you about that.

i will take a look in my old recipe books and see if there is anything.
I tend to use Witch Hazel for all sorts of things, and it is very cheap to buy in a bottle.

Thanks, I will try the witch hazel. The optician did tell me to get drops from the doctor, which I did, but they aren't really helping much, I think the cold air gets into my eyes. x Jeanne

The drops Dr prescribe are cheap one's, my husband have drops for dry eyes and he's tried to get the one's Optician recommend but Dr won't, Opticians sell the better one's but they are expensive but they have a longer shelf life after opening, one's Dr prescribe you have to chuck out after 28 days, opticians recommended have about 6 months shelf life.

It is a shame they are so expensive.  I was shocked at the price.

would a gel based drop be more useful than liquid? So your eyes were more lubricated?

It must be very uncomfortable

I may pop into a homeopathic shop (the spelling is probably wrong, lol!) if I can find one. Also will check out the opticians, although our pockets are a bit empty at the moment! x thanks for all of the help. Jeanne

The only advice I would offer Jeanne is - please be very careful about what you use for your eyes.  Your eyesight is too precious to risk damage - don't use anything unless recommended by your doctor or optician.  xx

I was thinking about a pair of goggles, but don't want to frighten the general public! x Jeanne

Jeanne - at this time of year, if there is sunshine the sun is so low in the sky that it can be hard on the eyes, very glaring.  I see lots of people wearing those sun glasses which curve round at the sides - not quite goggles, but probably very effective.  xx
