Special Day Out

I had a special day out this Wednesday with two of my friends, both of whom use wheelchairs (I acted as "engine driver" for one).
Every year they visit London and Buckingham Palace, this year they asked me if I would like to go/help out by pushing one of them... First Class travel with trolley service, couldn't fault the staff at both train stations for their help with ramps etc. - brilliant service from Abelio Anglia, and the staff at Liverpool Street Station. We got the number 23 bus to Trafalgar Square, then cut under Admiralty Arch - most impressive! Then a long, hot and dusty walk up The Mall to Buckingham Palace where the "fun" started

If you look at the first pic of the front of Buckingham Palace we went through the small arch to the left of the guardsman and across the quadrangle inside where we were all searched and checked and given special passes as we couldn't use the stairs we had to be escorted to take short cuts through some of the barriers and when using the lifts.
I thought it was very well thought out as for those who aren’t able to get around well, they put a mini-shop inside the Palace itself –the big shop has steps to get to in the Garden. We bought a few things – mine was a shopping bag and a tin of biscuits for Bruv n Sis-In-Law.

Wow.. The sculptures, the paintings, the ceramics, the room decoration/plasterwork ! If you would like to check some of it out try this link as it takes you to the Buckingham Palace Royal Collection page where you can find out more about all the bits n bobs.
https://www.royalcollection.org.uk/coll ... ace/682646The exhibition this year was about HM Queen's clothes hats etc. I was so keen to see it not just for the clothes etc., but one of the rooms used was where our Wendy received her MBE from Princess Anne - The Ballroom, it took us an hour n a quarter just to get round that.
After that, it was time for a cuppa and our packed lunch ... they had a marquee out the back overlooking the garden – we bought three teas at £2.65 each !

They didn't allow photos inside the Palace, but once you got to the garden they did ...
All in all a lovely day out even if I did get home hot and my feet aching ...
xxx Liz
