update
Wonderful vet has managed to save his leg after a difficult operation today. He has had pins inserted into his bones
and repairs to his ligaments . Vet said if he recovers well he should only have a slight limp. The next few weeks depend on him resting and then a follow up operation to remove the pins. Am hiring a big puppy birthing cage for him to rest in on vets advice. He must not be allowed to be tempted to play/fight with the other cats, or access to go outside or jump on the furniture to be sure of recovery.
He might be able to come home tomorrow if vet says ok.

update
still 50/50 whether his leg can be saved, but he is a good patient and resting well.
He is going back to vet next Wed.
He was back at vets for observation 2 days last week and they were undecided so gave it another week to see how healing progresses. Bones healing very well but damaged ligament causing concern.
However, there is still the possibility of attaching an artificial ligament which works well (90% successful on dogs)
so I am staying positive.
Vet has given me a very good discount on charges too which is very welcome.
He wants to save his leg too if possible.
will keep you updated.
