I work for a charity called the Carers Resource. We support carers in every aspect of their caring role. The advice you have been given by lots of others about your entitlement to an assessment in your own right, direct payments etc. is right however I can absolutely understand that you simply don't have the energy or time for all the hassle that is involved. This is where organisations like ours come in as we are able to help and support you, contact social services etc. My organisation helps carers in north and west yorkshire but we are affiliated to The Princess Royal Trust for Carers who have a network of organisations like ours right across the country. We are all independent charities, our services are free and confidential and we are ON YOUR SIDE. If you don't live in yorkshire but would like to get in touch I can find out where your nearest Carers Organsation would be and put you in touch with them.
They can help with linking and signposting to other support agencies, getting benefits and entitlements to assessments clear for you and many many other ways, they often also have groups and activities especially for carers to give you a chance to meet other people in similar situations. The message I want to give you really is - DON'T DO THIS ALONE. Please contact me and I will put you in touch with the right people.
