A hospital unit for sick babies is appealing for knitters to make soft toys for its charitable fund.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is asking people to take up their knitting needles and crochet hooks once to make soft toys to be sold at craft fayres, including the hospital’s own Christmas fair on December 11.
All proceeds will go towards NICU’s charitable fund to purchase additional equipment, such as incubators for the ward.
Louise Cook, NNUH fundraising manager, said: “We are truly grateful for everyone’s knitted contributions and the knitted Christmas toys are an additional way to provide support to the unit and NICU charitable fund.”
A previous appeal for hats and blankets for the babies on the ward received an incredible response and resulted in enough to last until spring 2015, so the NICU team is requesting knitters to hold on to any blankets and hats until that time, and turn their hand to the Teddies and other soft toys instead.
All shapes and sizes of toys will be accepted, or animal patterns can be obtained from the website at http://www.nnuh.nhs.uk/Page.asp?ID=358. All completed animals can be sent to Louise Cook, care of the hospital.
