scary encounter with crows, not a good start to the day

Postby Honey » 30 Jun 2015, 00:24

Early the other morning I got up, came downstairs , focused on putting the kettle on (as we do on automatic) and opened the back door to let the cats out as usual.
Immediately a dreadful commotion started, terrible screetching, cats scared, one dashed into the cat kennel, one dashed back inside and behind the sofa and one jumped up on the wall (bad mistake) all in the space of a few seconds.
I rushed out into the yard and two adult crows were trying to attack my cat on the wall who was frozen in fear , I grabbed him and went to bring him indoors and the birds were flying around my head screetching.
I then saw a young almost fully grown chick by my back door and it hopped inside the kitchen.
I brought the cat inside and took it into the front room.
Going back into the kitchen I then had to catch the young rook who was hopping around while its parents were screetching in the yard.
I threw a tea towel over it and gently picked the bird up and took it outside, out of the gate , and up the alley to a nearby
expanse of brushwood bordering a field, then I let it go. All the time followed by the parents swooping and screetching. It
couldn't fly but was trying to. As soon as let it go it hopped away followed by its parents and the terrible noise and swooping from them stopped.
I guessed the bird had just fledged and landed in my yard and couldn't get out and its parents were protecting it.
Back inside I went to check on the cats, all ok. One back in her basket asleep, another asleep still behind the sofa and poor Archie who was almost attacked by the rooks was just waiting for some sympathy and a cuddle before he went back to sleep.
Then I put the kettle on again for a well needed cup of tea.
All the cats were ok, and Archie was back up on the wall sunning himself after he woke up.
