the cat who walked into my house last December and made himself at home immediately needed a vet as he had an abcess on his face , we took him to a vet who tested him for a microchip, he had one and his owner lived fairly local.
they contacted her, she came to collect him after 3 days, said she hadn't seen him for 6 months, and took him home. meanwhile we had had him treated. she said don't be surprised if he returns.
one week later on Christmas day he walked back into the house and has never left. his owner can have him back anytime she wants but I think she is leaving him to decide for himself where he lives as are we.
she knows where he is and is being well looked after. for all I know, he might be dividing his time between us both when he goes out. the main thing is he is well cared for and loved .
cats decide for themselves, we just obey them sp0 sp0 sp0
