How would you know who the £20 belonged to.

If you hand it in at the police station, you get it back after so long if it isn't claimed, so yes I'd hand it in

I would hand it in. I couldn't keep money that didn't belong to me.

I would ask at local shops or houses if anyone had lost something.
I would let the police station know but I am not sure they would be interested.
My concern would be that the money could be all the person had to last them the week, so I would do all I could do to find the loser.
Like Annie said the money would be returned to me if no one claimed it.
A good place to notify is the local post office.

When Mark was in hospital I found a blackberry phone on seats near the entrance and handed it in at reception. I would probably of given the money to a charity.
