What memories do you have (if any) of washing clothes in the 50's and 60's

I remember it took a whole morning to do the weeks washing on a Monday, if my shift allowed.

In the early 50s, mum had a dolly tub and washboard & a hand wringer, it was jolly hard work & took all morning, it the weather was inclement, she hung the washing on the rack which was suspended from the ceiling in front of the black lead range in the kitchen. She later got an electric washer with electric wringer, but she still had to haul the things into the sink to rinse.

When I married in the 60s, I had a Hoover Twin Tub, it still took up a good chunk of the morning

I had a twin tub when I first got married, I remember my mum and nan using a gas boiler for the whites and nan had a large wooden roller wringer outside with a large galvanized tub underneath to catch the water.

In those days if you had a baby there were piles of nappies to wash everyday, no disposables back then.

My memory is from when we had our first dog, a black lab called Inky.

Mum used to handwash. She had a little spinner she plugged in and had to place a bowl under the spout to catch the water then tip it into the sink. Our lab took a liking to drinking the water that came out of the spout whenever she did the washing ! lol

And I can remember my grandmother using a washboard .. in a tin bath
