Disability benefit change to affect half a million

More than half a million disabled people could lose out as a result of further changes over the next four years to welfare payments.

The formula the government uses to calculate the daily living component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for disabled people will change in January.

The government said 640,000 people could be affected by this by 2020.

It said it would save £1.2bn and ensure PIP was fairer, but disability charities criticised the move.

Recipients of PIP are assessed using a points system to determine what level of help they receive.

Claimants can get between £21.80 and £139.75 per week.

The Commons could be forced to hold an emergency debate on the matter after a snap petition, set up on the 9 March, received more than 100,000 signatures in just a week.

Jane
These changes if they do happen (which seems most unlikely), will not happen until next year so try not to worry.
I know you still worry but we are here to support you.

I spoke with my MP in Westminster last week and told her of our fears against this bill going ahead.
This is when I heard the news that I posted previously for you in the hope it would give a little comfort.

The cuts have all been scrapped like I told you last week.
But sorry I will not be here for you on the next budget.
But good news this time.
