Patients who do not visit their GP for five years could be barred from their doctor's surgery under plans being developed in the East of England.

Under the move, patients who have not seen their GP for five years will be sent two letters asking them to respond. If they don't get in touch to say they still wish to be registered with their GP, they'll be removed from the GP practice list.

GPs are paid for every patient on their list - in 2013/14, the average GP practice received funding worth £136 per registered patient.

The drive by the NHS England - known as "list cleansing" - is intended to cut costs to the NHS.

What if churches decided to do this?

It will be me for one that will be took off GP's list, penalized for having good health but that doesn't mean I'll be like that forever.

How can they penalize the healthy!! They should be pleased to have some good statistics on their books. Like Maureen said not everyone will be healthy for ever. what about injuries etc too!!

I think this country is going nuts.

I think the idea has been scrapped.

And rightly so, it was the most stupid idea I've heard in a while.
