Tips for bonfire night

Bonfire Night has rather unfortunate timing for local wildlife, much of which is busying itself with the annual task of finding enough food and shelter for the winter ahead.

Particularly vulnerable on Bonfire Night is the increasingly rare hedgehog community but there are plenty of other animals at risk at this time of year. Frogs, toads, newts, foxes, cats, birds – that interesting log pile you have been creating for the last few days, or weeks even, looks a lot like a warm and comfortable new residence to so many of them.

Here are a few simple precautionary actions that you can take to help protect wildlife, and their homes, ahead of Bonfire Night:

It was more like bonfire night than Halloween in our area last night.
It scares the animals to much.

Same here Mo, I had to keep the cats in, fireworks going off all over the place from teatime until 10pm

We also had a lot of fireworks going off last night, Milo barks at the loud bangs and runs around and around. They should not sell fireworks to the public, just have organised displays on the 5th November only.
