Police warning after criminals mark Norfolk homes to target with chalk

Criminals have been marking homes in Norfolk where vulnerable people, such as the elderly, are living with chalk - so they can be targeted by rogue traders, police have revealed.
A warning has been issued after police received a call shortly after 10pm on Wednesday night from a concerned resident in Roseberry Road in Great Plumstead.

A woman had called at the address asking for directions and the resident then discovered chalk markings at the front of the house as well two other properties in the same road.

The markings are described as being a horizontal line measuring three inches long at shoulder height next to the front door.

PCSO Ross Mullinger, from Acle Police Station, said: “We’re urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.

“These kind of markings are commonly used to indicate addresses which are either vulnerable or have vulnerable people living there, which then can be targeted for criminal activity.”

Anyone with information about suspected rogue traders should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
