PIP final phase rollout now July

Minister for Disabled People, Justin Tomlinson, has issued a written statement bringing the final phase of the PIP roll out forward from October to July 2015

In justification of this announced intention Justin Tomlinson says:

“My original intention was to start this final phase in October 2015 GB wide. In May Departmental statistics confirmed that average reassessment claims for PIP were waiting only 4 weeks from returning their PIP forms until an assessment, which is in line with our expectations. This improved performance means I am pleased to announce that we are now in a position to begin the final phase in July, initially at small volumes and in a limited number of areas. We recognise that this will result in some claimants being invited to reassessment earlier than they might have expected. But by operating at a smaller scale initially, this will enable us to monitor the system closely in small volumes to ensure an efficient reassessment process is in place.

It will also provide us with an opportunity to test key parts of the PIP process, such as the way in which we communicate with claimants. This is in line with the previous Governments response to recommendations in the independent review of PIP carried out by Paul Gray in December 2014.”

The revised rollout will start from 13th July on a small scale with 3,000 claimants chosen at random from postcodes in the North-West and Midlands as follows:

Blackburn (BB)
Bolton (BL)
Derby (DE)
Leicester (LE)
Manchester (M)
Oldham (OL)
Preston (PR)
Stoke on Trent (ST)
Warrington (WA)
Wigan (WN)

Oh goodness. I feel sick. We are on that list. Dreading that arriving. Praying we don't get turned down again and have to appeal. I don't think I could cope with that again

Warren is also dreading it - his DLA says for life, as his condition is degenerative & will get worse year by year & they still want to reassess him to try & get him off it, it is wicked!

We were on for life too. Don't see why that has to be reassessed. Too much stress over this for everyone

It is not just the fear and worry,, the thought of another 40+ page document with ambiguous questions which don't always fit the condition
