An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale hit the town of Sandwich at a depth of 15km at 2.52am.

The tremor was reported on Twitter to be felt as far away as Norwich, Cromer and Hunstanton. Graham Bunting of Mulbarton tweeted: “it woke the wife up (who in turn woke me up) thinking it was ‘burglars’ as the ‘doors were shaking’ made me check the whole house!!”

My daughter felt it at Kettingham and I woke up in Norwich just before 3am, but I did not feel a shake, I thought someone was walking around the house.
