Onions are eaten and grown in more countries than any other vegetable but rarely seem to receive much acclaim. It's time to stop taking the tangy, tear-inducing bulb for granted and give it a round of applause, writes the BBC's Marek Pruszewicz.

I had a roast onion with my lunch on New Years Day. I love them.

I love onions, eat them a lot, especially fried.

Onions are good if you have a cold, also if you have a peeled onion in the room it can ward off flu.

I don't like raw onions but love them in stews, roasts, fried, etc.

I love onions any way, boiled, fried, raw, pickled and in casseroles etc
