East Lancs nursing staff suspended

Postby annie » 06 Dec 2014, 12:51

SIX nursing staff have been suspended and an investigation launched by police after 'serious allegations' were made about the treatment of a psychiatric patient.

It has been alleged that a woman was left screaming and covered in excrement for several hours at the Pendleview mental health unit in Blackburn, after staff failed to offer her help.

The incident happened on the Ribble Ward, on an overnight shift. The unit , which takes patients from across East Lancashire, is situated at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, but is run by Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust.

It has been claimed that staff failed to offer adequate assistance to the woman, who was said to be in severe distress before being found by workers starting the day shift.
