Persistent gentle rain has fallen across the county throughout the day, with up to 20mm falling in north Norfolk, 18mm in Norwich and 17mm over in the west of the county.

Most areas have reported between 10mm and 15mm of rain, with pooling water making for precarious driving conditions in parts.

Chris Bell, from Weatherquest, said the showers should start clearing up in the early evening.

“It will start to clear to the east of us, with the county starting to dry out between 5pm and 7pm.

“The whole of the region has seen around 15mm but there could be a few more spots with more before all’s said and done,” he said.

Mr Bell added that the nature of the rain meant flash flooding was unlikely.

However, Greater Anglia reported delays to trains from Sheringham to Norwich due to “heavy flooding” on the railway.

The rain also saw a dampening effect on the charity motor day at Snetterton race track, with organisers saying the rain had made an impact of visitor numbers.
