England manager Roy Hodgson said his players will sing the national anthem loud and proud before matches at the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Hodgson urged his 23-man squad to deliver a rousing version of 'God Save the Queen' before every match at the tournament.


“You very rarely play an international match against opponents and they haven't got their hands on their hearts and singing their anthem as loud as they can, and we've made a decision that that's what we're going to do too, because we are proud, we are happy to be wearing that England shirt.

I hope they do.
I can remember when the TV ended every night with the anthem, and when you went to the pictures.

At last.

I always found it very disrespectful when they obviously mimed or just didn't bother at all. Other countries put us to shame.

Good on Roy Hodgson.

YOu are right Jane , other countries do put us to shame re patriotism, they should be proud to sing the National Anthem, after all they are privileged to be paid a fortune  to play football for their country

They were discussing this on loose women and no-one in the audience knew the second verse. It is really sad  but let's see if all the attention it's now getting in the news we all have a go at learning it!
