This is the moggy in a cat fight for the crown of world’s oldest feline at 25 – equivalent to 118 in human years.
The grey cat named Smokey was born in September 1988, according to mother and son owners Mary and Mark McLoughlin.
Aged just eight, Mark picked Smokey and her sister Smudge out of a litter of kittens and took her home.
And for the past 25 years she’s been purrfect company for the McLoughlins although she’s been feline her advancing age recently.
Mark said: “She sleeps most of the day now and is completely deaf and partially blind.
“But she cries to be fed and she sleeps under the table where there’s a wee imprint of her on the carpet beside the radiator.
“She’s hardly gone outside the past two years – she mostly stays inside now.”
If the McLoughlin family, from Bangor, Co Down, can prove Smokey’s age she could snatch the Guinness World Record of being the oldest living cat from Poppy, 24, from Bournemouth.
Mark, 34, added that despite Smokey’s aging aches and pains she’s still friendly. He added: “Although she’s totally deaf, she senses people in the house and goes over to them.”
And although they thought she might have been nearing the end of her nine lives a few years ago she’s still carrying on.
Mark said: “We really thought she was on her last legs about four years ago but she’s still going strong.
“We got a little kitten called Maddy, because she’s mad, but Smokey’s still here.
“She’s all bony now and matted because she can’t clean herself.
“When we took her to the vet recently we thought it was going to be a one-way trip but the vet said she’s the oldest he’s treated and that her ticker is great.
“We saw that the oldest cat ever was 38 years old so we were joking the other day she has at least another 10 years in her.”
The oldest cat in history was a feline called Creme Puff who lived in Austin, Texas, who survived for 38 years and three days.
