A number of bursaries are available to enable cancer patients, survivors, carers and others affected by cancer (otherwise known as ‘Consumers’) who are resident in the UK and involved in cancer research, to attend the Conference.

The participation of patients and those affected by cancer is central to the inclusive and dynamic nature of NCRI. The NCRI Cancer Conference bursary award supports individuals directly affected by the experience of cancer who are involved in cancer research, and who wish to learn from and contribute to the Conference.

Various levels of bursary are given which include registration (single or multiple days), travel, accommodation and incidental expenses. As there are specific criteria which must be met (please see below) and a limited budget, therefore not all applicants are guaranteed to receive a bursary.

Bursary criteria

    Must be a UK resident
    Consumers who sit on NCRI Clinical Studies Groups (CSG) or other NCRI core activities and initiatives;
    Consumers who sit on other UK cancer research groups or committees such as trial steering groups, trial management groups or local research groups;
    Consumers or members of the public with a proven interest in cancer research who are members of patient support groups;
    Consumers or members of the public with a proven interest in cancer research.

Applicants are encouraged to also explore other possible sources of funding and to look at the Conference programme to decide which days are most relevant to their needs and interests.
