Posted: 07 May 2014, 11:08A blaze which tore through a five bedroom house in Salford was sparked by an incense stick.
Fire chiefs have issued a warning after flames gutted the first floor of a home in Boothstown, Worsley, on Monday lunchtime.
Three crews were scrambled to Fellfoot Close after 1.30pm and tackled the fire with water jets.
It’s now believed that the blaze was started by an incense stick.
Watch Manager Steve Coote said: “Sadly, an incense stick left burning on a cabinet on the landing seems to have caused this fire which ripped through the upstairs of the house.
“Thankfully, no one was inside and a working smoke alarm raised the alarm but this was a slow burn fire and it was incredibly hot.
“We worked hard to tackle the blaze and stopped it spreading into the roof space.
“No internal doors inside the house were closed – there was heat and fire damage to five bedrooms, three bathrooms and smoke damage spread downstairs.
“I’d urge people to please take care when using incense and candles – incense doesn’t give off a lot of smoke but they get so hot.
“Please make sure they are out if you go out - douse them in water to make sure they are completely out. Closing doors inside your home would limit fire spread
