Canal walk

I had a lovely walk down the canal bank this afternoon & a female swan was nesting, with the male patrolling up & down past her for about 50 yards either side to protect her. Further down was a duck with 9 baby chicks, then I saw a pair of geese ( they were new since last week) & then the funniest thing was a female duck with 2 drakes in the middle of the canal. One of the drakes kept swimming round her in a circle & if the other drake approached them, he wiggled his tail and set off after him & chased him away, quacking like mad, it was hilarious, I could imagine him saying get off, she;'smine!!!!!!
It made my day& came home with a really light heart. Sadly I forgot my phone, so I missed out on some great pictures.

You can't beat a canal walk and a good dose of nature.
There is a duck family on our canal who had 16 chicks!! I have never seen such a big clutch

The simplest things in life give the greatest pleasure.
We use to get a lot of ducks in our garden, they use to lay their eggs under the hedge and raise their young there, it was strange as we have no water or ponds nearby.

Had another walk down the canal this afternoon, no cygnets yet, the pen is still sat on the nest. The cob was a long way down today & then a barge came floating by, right in his path. He looked it right in the eye & didn't budge, & it bumped gently into him head on, but what happened next was hilarious!! he lost his temper and gave the ballast tyres a severe pecking all along the side & then he followed the barge for a good 100 yards downstream pecking at the back ballast, it was so funny!!!! I laughed all the way home, I must have looked a right loony!!!

You'll have to take your camera Annie that would have made a good photo.

You are right Mo, I am hopeless. I did get a pic yesterday of the pen on her nest, but I have to Bluetooth it to the computer yet, it is not a close -up though as she is on the opposite bank

we dont have canals in Norfolk, so your post brought back lovely memories for me of times living in the midlands.
