Instant or fresh?

Which coffee do you prefer/use - instant or fresh?
Do you use a cafetiere, percolator, filter machine or all-singing- dancing machine?
I love fresh coffee, but as Bill rarely drinks coffee , it is much easier at home to make instant when you only want one cup & I don't have one of those fancy new machines, as I only drink it black. I just have a cafetiere and filter  machine.


Why do Britons drink so much instant coffee?

It's UK coffee week, but despite years of cafe proliferation, instant coffee still dominates at home. Why do the British drink so much more instant than anyone else, asks Denise Winterman.

"It's like orange squash and orange juice, they're both called orange but that's pretty much where the similarities end," says Paul Meikle-Janney, managing director of coffee consultancy, Coffee Community. "Instant coffee and fresh coffee are different products. Each has its own place in the market but that place is narrowing when it comes to instant and that is as it should be."

But instant still accounts for 77% of the coffee Brits buy to drink at home, according to market research specialists Mintel. In Italy it accounts for just 1%, in France 4% and 7% in the US. The UK market for coffee at home is growing and is now worth in excess of £1bn annually. Instant has lost market share recently but still dominates over the likes of ground coffee and beans.

I use both instant and fresh, it's only me that drinks Coffee, I have a small cafetiere which is ideal but I do tend to reach for instant if I'm busy and I do have my Coffee quite strong.

I drink more tea than anything, but I keep a small jar of instant in for the odd cuppa for me n for Sis-In-Law when she comes round as she only drinks coffee. When I go out I like a latte but ration myself to two a week max and I have de-caff n skimmed milk where poss ...

I have one mug of fresh coffee a day, and I really look forward to it. I love the smell and the taste, and sit and enjoy the experience.
