JUST 20 minutes of exercise each day can slash the risk of h

Walking and cycling have been shown to have a life-enhancing effect on those aged 60.

It comes after studies showed the benefits of gentle and regular exercise far outweigh rigorous workouts.



Even time spent gardening, doing the housework or walking to work have a “dramatic effect” in staving off the killer disease.

It the clearest sign yet that exercise, in whatever form, is the cheapest and most effective way to avoid an early grave.

Heart failure, where too little blood is pumped around the body, is one of the main reasons so many over-65s end up in hospital.

It affects nearly a million people in the UK every year and in its severest form, life expectancy is worse than for cancer patients.

But the research shows it is never too late to start with exercise taken little and often the best prescription for preventing disease.

I'm always doing something which keeps me fit, gardening etc
