Scientists have cracked the secrets of one of Britain’s biggest killers – paving the way for a lifesaving blood test.
They have shown that sepsis, a potentially fatal type of blood poisoning, leaves 11 tell-tale signs in the blood.
The discovery raises hope of a simple blood test that rapidly picks up the illness, saving some of the 40,000 lives lost to it a year in the UK.
