Coronation Street actor Craig Charles has quit I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! following the sudden death of his brother.


The 50-year-old was informed that his brother Dean had died on Thursday morning in Australia, which was late on Wednesday UK time.


Dean, 52, a former policeman and father-of-two, is reported to have suffered a heart attack on Tuesday evening.


Charles was missing from the live section of last night's show when hosts Ant and Dec entered the campsite, and viewers were unable to vote for him to participate in the latest Bushtucker trial.


A spokesperson for the show told ITV News that the actor decided to leave straight after saying goodbye to his fellow celebrities.

The source added that Charles was a "great part of the show and we are sorry to see him leave but completely respect his wishes".

He is due to fly back to the UK to be with his family tomorrow.


"We send our sincere condolences to Craig and his family," an ITV spokesperson added.


Charles' departure comes after The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins left the jungle yesterday.
