This is what I've been dealing with recently. Anyone else dealing with/dealt with this problem? Any advice or experience to share? Thanks

My thoughts are with you on this.  It is an extremely difficult situation that you face.  May I ask does the person you care for threaten you with taking their life, or do they not mention it?
Have you spoken with the Samaritans on the phone, or I would be willing to phone you if it would be any help.
Are the local care services aware of the situation?
Please look after yourself.

Hi Wendy. My wife currently tells me often about her thoughts. She is variable in that she has asked me to hide all our painkillers, but will quite happily threaten to take her life the moment I am out. I don't think local adult social care services are aware of her mood shift, although her counsellor is.
We will be talking to her doctor when he returns from sick leave. In the mean time I've not spoken to the samaritans but I think I would be happy to do so should this seem appropriate. Thank you for your kind offer, and for your support.

I am glad that I have been of some help.  Have you let adult social care support know about the changes for your wife.
I think it may be a good thing to let them know.

We haven't let them know yet. I will speak to my wife and ask her what she thinks of the idea, thank you.

Sorry to hear of your problems frogman, I've not experienced that, like Wendy said it would be best to let Dr and social support know so they are aware of it as you need support yourself.

I don't have a solution for you as I have never dealt with such a situation, but Wendy and Mo have given good advice, I can only suggest you to take it, it is really important to gain support for yourself

I really fel for you with this.

I have been through this a few times with my husband including the attempts.

Coping is very hard. Going out means you risk something happening while you are out. It is a terrifying way to live.

In Lee's case on the 3rd attempt with an overdose he was taken into a and e and then to a ward until he had it out of his system. I was told by the crisis team again he wasn't bad enough! I had an awful time with it. The doctor finally refered him  to the metal health team and he now has a counsellor visit regularly to help him and to manage the way he feels.

Lee can't cope with the chronic pain he is in and gets to the stage that he can't cope thinks the only way out is through death.

I don't know your wifes circumstances buit please feel free to pm if you want to talk about it privately or I am happy to talk to you on this thread too if that helps.

I am sorry you are going through this. You aren't alone and I hope you ahve support too.

take care
