Europe's tallest skyscraper, The Shard, was struck by lightning as rain and hail storms passed over the country.
A picture taken of the moment the bolt struck the London landmark shows a single fork of electricity hitting the very top of the 87-storey structure, which stands at 306 metres (1,004ft) tall.
Visitors to the observation deck on the 72nd floor reported being terrified as a flash of light hit the building above them.
A spokesman for The Shard said he was not aware of a strike as there was no damage, but the building had lightning conductors designed to prevent it being affected.
Sky's weather service said the worst of the storms were expected to move north into northern England and Scotland before easing to generally unsettled weather
