Mobile World Congress: What future for phones?

28 February 2014 Last updated at 00:08 GMT

Excitement at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week centred around new devices coming onto the market this year.

But what will the same people be talking about in 20 years time?

BBC technology correspondent Mark Gregory spoke to some of the most influential people in the mobile industry to try and predict where the technology is heading, and whether in a few years we will even have mobile phones at all.

Video journalist: Dan Curtis

I remember when I was a child saying that one day, people will be able to walk down the street and talk to loved ones who are far away.
My friends thought I was mad.
Now I think in 20 years time, we wont have mobile phones, but we will have something attached to our eyebrows that will allow us to do the same and more, we will be able to see the people we speak to, and maybe even have smell.
It will be a normal way of talking with people, because people will have become more isolated, living on their own, and not mixing with other people.

If they attach them to our eyebrows will I lose reception when I have them plucked?!!!!!  sp0

Maybe we will have implants like that film, it will certainly help me stop forgetting where I put my phone!!
