Social Media training for Carers.
Norfolk is very big and spread out. Social media can be used to close the gap between people; to help people make connections with others; to keep in touch with friends, family and others. Keeping in touch via the internet is not the same as face-to-face contact but it does mean that you are not isolated, you are still connected.
This course is designed to teach you about the three main social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter and Skype – and how to use them safely.
The training is being delivered by the Library service and takes place in local libraries. Spaces at the libraries vary depending on the size of the library. Not all libraries have wi-fi so you may not be able to bring and learn on your own device.
The training is 4 half days. Each of the first 3 sessions will be devoted to one of the social media - Facebook, Twitter and Skype. The final half day is a consolidation session.
The first 3 sessions will be on a weekly basis with a break between the first 3 and the final one. In between each session carers are expected to put into practice what they have learned, ‘facebooking’, tweeting and skyping each other or family and friends. In this way if there is anything that is not clear or there are questions these can be brought back to the next session.
The requirements for doing the social media training are:
1. You must know how to use a computer.
2. You must attend all 4 days as each day is different.
3. You must practice in-between sessions and bring issues and questions to the next session.
4. You need to have an active library card.
You will need to bring to the session:
1. Your library card.
2. If you are already registered with any or all of the social media, bring your username and password.
3. Bring your Email address & log-in, you will need it to confirm your Twitter account. Must be a web-based one e.g. gmail, hotmail, yahoo
4. Any Twitter @’s of people you know are on there
5. A photo for your profile, Max size 700kb – bring on a memory stick or on digital camera. Doesn’t have to be of you, can be cat/dog/house/garden or an avatar. This is not essential but helps people identify you against anyone else with the same name.
