Sound barrier

I was getting my washing in, when I heard a plane or planes, going through the sound barrier. This is so unusual as I live in a city.
I wonder if anyone else heard them?

There has been a lot of activity in the sky over here this afternoon, at first it sounded like thunder.

There was a lot of noise my way too - it startled the woodpigeons who took off when it got over head. I reckon maybe something is brewing?
