Taken from todays carers newspaper

British farmers warn their crop faces extinction as supermarkets launch 'race to the bottom' price wars

Supermarket price wars and cheap imports saw prices drop from 80 to 50p
Now fewer cucumbers being grown in Britain than at any point in history
New report shows they are grown on less than 100 hectares for first time
Could make Britain reliant on foreign imports which leaves the door open for shortages or massive price hikes if supply drops or demand increases

I have also heard that runner beans may be going the same way because people prefer French beans, but I don't.

Do read the paper today, there is such a sad tale at the bottom of the page. I have never seen anything like it before, and it makes me realize we have nothing to moan about.

We have had over 30,000 people read our newspaper and 288 people have it embedded on their website.

It will be a sad day when we have to rely on inferior French imports, rather than our own produce

While I like nice salad, cucumber is one of the things I avoid as it gives me wind - I have tried taking the skin of it but it still has the same effect - Pity as I lovethe smell and the flavour of it ...
