getting a kitten and it's benefits

Postby JaneJ » 30 Apr 2015, 08:40

We are ready for a new addition to our family.

I have been looking to getting a cat for over a year now. Weighing up the pros and cons. I finally decide yes the other day.

I have found a gorgeous black and white kitten not far from here.

I wanted not only a pet but Liv hasn't had the most normal of childhoods. She misses out on sleep overs and having friends around alot due to our circumstances. Over the years she has seen alot of things with Lee that no child should go through. It has left it's mark. Having this kitten that she will be Co owner with me will be good for her mentally and physically. It is her job to name it and she will have responsibilities taking care of its everyday needs not just the nice parts.

We told her yesterday and I'm surprised you all didn't hear a woop of delight! She is thrilled. When I was talking to her later she said to me not only is it going to be nice having a pet but she will be able to tel, it everything if she feels things are getting on top of her which is just what I wanted for her. She and I talk a lot but we all know that we don't tell our family or friends everything. So this little chap will have a big impact on her mental health too.

Liv has been researching how to care for a kitten. She hopped into bed with me this morning to tell me all about it. She certainly has learnt a lot! This will be a very pampered and loved kitten.

Tomorrow is buying equipment day so Liv is making a list. Then Saturday is pick up day!

So even though having a parent /husband to care for and the scars it leaves on children in families like this there are ways to make their childhood special and memorable in difficult situations. Taking into account that mentally we all go through the mill and counselling isn't always ideal and children think differently there are ways to improve mental health and family dynamics.

I may not have made Livs life the perfect childhood but I'm trying!

I think every child should have a pet of some kind when they are growing up, good luck with little kitty, pets are a good distraction from problems life throw at us.

I reckon this would make an excellent blog on our front page.

Thank you Annie, you are kind.

I have no problem with it going on the front page Wendy. I would need to change the names though.
